UPDATE February 17, 2015 –
Crime Stoppers of the Inland Northwest says it was Washington’s Most Wanted viewer tips that helped identify the suspect.

SUSPECT IDENTIFIED January 12, 2015 –
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Department says tips have identified the suspect.

SUSPECT WANTED IN SPOKANE COUNTY September 12, 2014 —

Spokane County detectives need your help identifying the thief caught on camera swiping a cell phone from a car parked at a gas station.

It happened after detectives say he tried using two stolen credit cards to fuel-up the blue, four-door Subaru he was driving.

Both cards declined, so he walked inside and paid cash for the gas — and a chocolate donut.

He went back to his car and scoped out the silver Hyundai parked next to him, right before he steals a cell phone from inside it.

There are good photos of the guy and his ride, so somebody has to know who he is. If you do, call an anonymous tip into:

everett car and gem thief

UPDATE February 19, 2015 –
Everett police say patrol officers have identified the suspect.

FUGITIVE WANTED IN EVERETT February 13, 2015 —
Everett police say a broker of gems is out $100,000 after a thief snuck into his hotel room, swiped his car keys and stole his car.

It happened at the Extended Stay America in Everett.

Police were able to get video of the suspect inside a nearby convenience store before he headed over to the hotel where he prowled around for about 20 minutes. “At this point and time we don’t actually believe that he specifically targeted this vehicle and potentially the gems inside,” said Everett police Ofc. Aaron Snell. “What we think is that he was walking around. He entered the location. He entered one of the rooms, found the keys, and then took off in the vehicle.”

Detectives say the victim left the door to his hotel room ajar to get a cup of coffee, and that’s how the crook got in to steal his keys.

A pair of yellow sapphire earrings surrounded by diamonds was among the $100,000s worth of gems and jewelry that was inside the victim’s car.

victor2FUGITIVE WANTED August 13, 2014 –
A cult leader accused of raping teenage girls has reportedly been spotted western Washington.

52-year-old Victor Barnard has been the target of a nationwide manhunt.

In April, authorities said Barnard may have traveled to Washington from Minnesota, where he’s charged with 59 felony counts of criminal sexual misconduct with two girls, ages 12 and 13. At that time, police said his last known whereabouts were Spokane.

Victor Barnard. WSP photo.

Now, the Washington State Patrol says they have a credible tip that Barnard has been spotted in the Aberdeen and Raymond areas in Grays Harbor County. They are asking for the public’s help in finding him.

Troopers said Barnard was seen leaving a McDonald’s Restaurant on SR 101 in Raymond driving a dark blue Audi 2-door with tinted windows and a spoiler. They said Barnard was heading toward Aberdeen with a young woman at the time.

Barnard ministered a religious group in Northern Pine County, Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota Star-Tribune, Barnard was the leader of victor1a cult that lead to girls as young as 10 to fall under his watch as “maidens.”

At least two women have come forward with allegations against Bernard, saying their time with him was a “nightmare” of sexual abuses, the Star-Tribune reported.

Troopers call Barnard a sex predator and are desperate to find him. He does have members of his religious sect who have been trying to hide him.

“He’s been involved in the molestation of children and I don’t have a good assessment as to his level of personal danger but he’s certainly not someone you want to approach.  Definitely call 911,” Washington State Patrol spokesman Bob Calkins  said.

If you have any information, call 9-1-1 or the Washington State Patrol immediately.

SUMEY COURTCAPTURE UPDATE March 2, 2015 –

He is being held on $30,000 bail.

His next court date is set for March 17.

Jason Sumey in February 2015 (left) and December 2014 (right).

FUGITIVE CAPTURED February 13, 2015 –
A convicted rapist who sexually assaulted a developmentally disabled man with the mental capacity of a 15-year-old is now facing a new Failure to Register charge after being caught thanks to tips from Washington’s Most Wanted viewers.

Jason Sumey was arrested on Friday the 13th in Lynnwood by the US Marshals Pacific NW Fugitive Apprehension Task Force.  Specific credit goes to Dept. of Corrections Officer Henry Pineda who spent months working to find Sumey.

Sumey had changed his appearance dramatically since being featured on WMW in early December of 2014.  His new booking photos show he gained weight, dyed his hair dark, grew a beard and was now wearing glasses.

His criminal history includes Rape 3rd Degree, Extortion 1st Degree, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 (x2)and 2007.

King County Det. Christina Bartlett wrote in probable cause documents that “Sumey met the victim in Alaska while working at a fish cannery. Sumey began an escalating patter of fraudulent scams on the victim, which involved physical, emotional and sexual torture.”

When the victim returned to Seattle at the behest of his family, Sumey followed him as well and convinced the victim he was a Federal Marshal, even showing him a police type badge.

“Sumey demanded $7,000 from the victim because he has protected him from the mob,” wrote Det. Bartlett.

Sumey was convicted and classified a level 2 sex offender when released on December 16, 2001.

Sumey has been convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender on six different occasions. He is required to sign in weekly with the King County Sheriff’s Office but had not done so since February 3, 2011.

Prosecutors have requested he be held on $30,000 bail. He will be arraigned March 2nd.

His capture is one of numerous arrests by Officer Pineda that are making Washington safer.  He was honored in June of 2013 as Washington’s Most Wanted Officer of the Month for coming in on his birthday to catch Andrew Trotman, a violent pimp accused of beating and raping a 17-year-old girl he tried to force into prostitution in Federal Way.

Officer Pineda is the first to give credit to the rest of task force members he works with but Sumey’s capture is another example of his dedication.

“I have kids. I have a daughter, and just helping out the community and making everybody safer. These guys have to be held accountable for what they do,” said Officer Pineda.

WMW 600th Capture: Viewer tips lead to missing sex offender in California

$

gendersFUGITIVE CAPTURED March 3, 2015 –
A Pierce County sex offender on the run since 2012 is Washington’s Most Wanted’s 600th fugitive captured.

Andrew Genders was arrested Tuesday night at 571 Wood Hill St. in Rialto, California by U.S. Marshals.

The 24 year old is currently in the San Bernardino Jail awaiting extradition to Washington state to face charges of Escape from Community Custody and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

He was convicted in 2009 of Assault in the 3rd degree with Sexual Motivation for preying on a young boy he was babysitting.

After being featured on Washington’s Most Wanted on February 13,  Crime Stoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County got numerous viewer tips that Genders was living in Rialto. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department worked with the Department of Corrections to modify Genders’ warrant so he could be arrested and transferred back to Washington to face his charges.  The sheriff’s department also notified law enforcement in Rialto that an unregistered sex offender may be in their area. The Washington State Department of Corrections coordinated efforts with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and arrest Genders based on addresses provided by Washington’s Most Wanted viewers.  The U.S. Marshals were able to verify the addresses and conducted surveillance on the home where they believed Genders was staying.  U.S. Marshals spotted him and took him into custody.

“Credit really goes to the partnership with local law enforcement agencies like Pierce County,” said Acting Assistant Chief Raymond Fleck of the U.S. Marshals Service in the Western District of Washington. “Once they get a case like this, our Violent Offender Task Force adopts it and we can immediately take action no matter where a fugitive is hiding.  Our kids live in these communities too so anytime there is a wanted sex offender who has fled to another state, we take finding that fugitive very seriously.”

It’s a true team effort from start to finish!  A big thanks to our Washington’s Most Wanted viewers, Department of Corrections and the U.S. Marshals Service for their help!

FUGITIVE WANTED BY DOC IN PIERCE COUNTY February 13, 2015 —
Pierce County detectives need your help getting a missing child predator back on the map.

Andrew Genders was convicted of preying on a young boy he was babysitting.

He’s failing to register as a sex offender and breaking probation. “He’s somebody who’s registered as transient and trying to take advantage of the loop hole so that we won’t be able to find him when he takes off,” says Pierce County Det. Ed Troyer. “Well, he’s taken off and he has a warrant for his arrest. We want to get him caught because family members have said that they’re probably out there helping him hide and that we’re not going to be able to catch him. He was babysitting a four year old when he committed his crimes, so this is definitely somebody that we don’t want babysitting children. We need to get him in custody.”

Genders is 5’4” and weighs around 140 pounds.

He has a tattoo of a mushroom on his right lower leg and a hornet on his left lower leg.

He has ear gauges, which are the big holes in the lobe that people put large earring-like jewelry in.

Genders has ties to California. After abusing the boy in Graham he moved to Rialto, about an hour and a half east of Los Angeles, where he was later arrested for the sex crimes.

Convicted felon and accused rapist, Shad Johnson, surrendered at the Shoshone County Jail in Wallace, Idaho on Saturday.

Investigators say Johnson admitted he had people call in tips that he was in California but the heat was too much after being featured on Washington’s Most Wanted on back-to-back weekends.

He is WMW capture #602

FUGITIVE WANTED IN RENTON February 24, 2015 — Renton police urgently want to find a suspect accused of attacking and sexually assaulting a local barista.

Detectives say Shad Johnson waited for the woman to open at a drive through coffee stand before attacking her.

“You can imagine that this victim had what must seem like the fight of her life on her hands there,” said Renton Police Det. Robert Onishi.

Police say Johnson knew the victim and she was not a stranger.

“It escalated to the point where she was trying to close the window and he was slamming it back open and he actually dragged her out the drive through window and a prolonged fight occurred outside and then back inside the stand and went on for a considerable amount of time,” said Det. Onishi.

Johnson has an extensive criminal history and is currently on federal probation after being convicted of dealing meth.

There is a federal warrant for his arrest as well as a $300,000 nationwide warrant for Rape 1, Burglary 1 and Assault 2.

“With a person he had a relationship with for a long period of time, came within very, very little time of very seriously injuring, possibly killing her, committed a horrifying sexual assault all with this inside her workplace. All of these things, people who have some control of their faculties do not do,” said Det. Onishi.

Authorities say he may be living in his truck (similar to the one pictured above) which is a red 2004 Ford F-150 pickup with Washington plate C65064A or he could be staying with friends.

“The violence of his acts indicates potentially that if someone were to stop him or he saw someone as an impediment to his flight or if law enforcement attempted to stop him for some unrelated reason, that something bad might occur because he seems to be very, very desperate at this time,” said Det. Onishi. Johnson has a history of drinking and gambling according to investigators so he could be spotted in casinos.

He has many ties in the Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho area and in Spokane. Detectives think he could be headed to California or still be in the Renton area.

“So our worry would be now with certain things at stake, with our warrant, our charges and such that he might be more likely to commit further horrific acts in the future,” said Det. Onishi.

Johnson is 6’1” and weighs 200 pounds.

If you spot him or his truck, call 911 immediately or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

You have to call Crime Stoppers to be eligible for the cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to his capture.
