The hunt is on for a dangerous and extremely violent mentally-ill offender.

His name is Michael Carpenter and he’s missing in King county where he’s breaking probation on a horrific assault in which he attacked his brother-in-law with a butcher knife and razor blade.

You got me.’ He admitted to police that he was off his medication, wanted money that his brother-in-law didn’t give to him, and the voice in his head named ‘Marvin’ told him he needed to attack his brother-in-law.”

COLD CASE SOLVED: Accused killer arrested 8 years after deadly shooting of Tacoma woman pleads ‘not guilty’

velmaCAPTURE UPDATE March 12, 2015 –
In a Pierce County courtroom Thursday, Brandon Farmer pleaded not guilty to murder in the first degree for the 2006 shooting death of Velma Tirado,

Farmer, who was in custody in West Virginia on unrelated charges, was transported to Washington State this week.

He is being held on $3 million bail.

“This is another example of collaboration, communication and persistence resulting in accountability,” said Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. “Our cold-case team continues to successfully resolve these cases for the community.”

velma2

Brandon Farmer is charged with Velma Tirado’s murder in 2006.

CAPTURE UPDATE November 12, 2014 —
“This was my one unsolved case over the last decade or so. For me, personally, to have this case solved is very satisfying,” Tacoma police Cold Case Unit detective Gene Miller said Wednesday.

A first-degree murder charge was filed earlier Wednesday against Brandon Lee Farmer, 29, who is in custody in West Virginia on unrelated charges.

Det. Miller says the break in the case and Farmer’s arrest came from a great cooperative effort with Tacoma police, the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office, the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab and the FBI.

Pierce County prosecutors say Farmer shot dead Velma Tirado, 45, in Tacoma on Aug. 27, 2006.

According to prosecutors, Farmer and his friend, Dusty Titus, picked up Tirado, a mother of six who was working as a prostitute in downtown Tacoma, and drove to a nearby alley. Prosecutors say that after Farmer had Tirado perform a sex act on him, he pulled out a revolver and shot her in the head.

“When patrol officers got to the scene, literally all that was there was the victim, very little evidence for us to work with, unfortunately,” Miller said.

No suspects were identified at the time and the case was referred to the Cold Case Unit.

And then, just a few weeks ago, Miller got a call from a district attorney in California.

“He explained to me that he had an individual down there who was hoping to share some information on a case in the city of Tacoma.”

That individual was Titus, who said he was the driver of the pickup truck that night Velma was killed.

“The information that person provided included not only details of the case that only someone present would know, but also details about the person that was actually responsible for the shooting,” Miller said.

Titus, in an interview with Miller and the FBI, identified Farmer as the shooter, prosecutors said.

“Farmer then admitted to Miller that he was present during the murder,” the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Velma’s family says they are ecstatic at the news.

Velma’s sister, Ladean Avilia made a plea to the killer when we first talked to her last year.

“We forgive you. We just want you to turn yourself in. You can’t run no more. Get tired of running. There’s a time when you stop and just turn yourself in,” Avilia said.

Velma’s daughter, Vanessa Mowat just wanted answers. “We just want to know who did it and why. You took our mom and my kid’s grandma.”

Now , with a suspect charged, efforts are under way to bring Farmer back to Washington state from West Virginia.

velma3

Detective Gene Miller of the Tacoma Police Department’s Cold Case Unit has been waiting eight years to find Velma Tirado’s killer.

KILLER WANTED IN TACOMA May 24, 2013 –
It’s been seven years since Velma Tirado’s daughter learned her mother had been murdered.

Tirado was 45 years old, and left behind six kids. Vanessa Mowat is the second oldest, and remembers hearing the news from a cousin. “I asked, ‘did you guys see my mom? Did you hear from her?’ And, she said, ‘No, we didn’t hear from her.’ She just started crying and I said, ‘what’s wrong?’ She said, ‘auntie Velma’s dead,’ and I couldn’t breathe.”

It all started in the early morning hours of August 27th, 2006. Tirado was working as a prostitute when something went wrong. Tacoma police Det. Gene Miller took WMW’s Parella Lewis to the murder scene. “It’s believed she was picked up down there by the suspect in the suspect’s vehicle, and transported to this location, and it was this location that things went bad.” It was just before 3am in the 1900 block of Fawcett Ave. in downtown Tacoma. Two witnesses parked nearby saw the horror unfold. “The victim was in the vehicle as was the suspect and there was some type of struggle that took place inside the vehicle,” says Det. Miller. “And, as the victim was attempting to exit the vehicle, the first shot was fired.” That shot hit Velma and blew out the passenger side window. The suspect then fired a second round and Velma fell out of the truck and hit the ground. “It was after the suspect vehicle had fled, the victim was able to get up, travel a short distance northbound, and went down and died,” says Det. Miller.

According to witnesses, the suspect was driving a dark-colored, ‘beater-style’ ’80’s or ’90’s truck. Detectives are releasing this information to the public for the first time — hoping to jog someone’s memory and get the tip they need to crack the case. “I’m hoping that someone is going to think back and remember somebody that they know,” says Det. Miller. “Somebody who’s a neighbor. Somebody who’s an associate. Somebody who had a vehicle that matches that description that came up with a broken window on the passenger side.”

Anyone with information on the murder of Velma Tirado, call an anonymous tip into:

SEATTLE — Police identified and arrested the man suspected of stealing a truck from a couple visiting Seattle earlier this month to raise money for a charity event.

Nathan Huber was identified by Q13 FOX News viewers after photos of him using stolen credit cards were aired.

Huber will now face charges of vehicle and ID theft, burglary and fraud, sources said. He is being held without bail in King County jail.

“All of our firefighter gear was in the truck, but they took my wife’s computer, wallet and other electronics. They also smoked in the truck and I believe it has some damage on the back panel,” said firefighter Shawn Ellinghouse.

Ellinghouse and his wife Kirsty drove to Seattle from Seeley Lake, MT to participate in the 24th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on March 8, an event where firefighters climb the Columbia Center stairs to raise money for the  Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The couple stayed at a hotel in the 200 block of Aurora Avenue. Their 2007 Toyota Tundra was stolen on March 8 at 11:31 pm from the secured hotel parking garage.

At 12:54 am, the suspect wearing an argyle sweater used Kirsty’s credit card at a 7-Eleven on Queen Anne Ave N. At 2:13 am, he’s seen wearing a Denver Broncos jacket at a 7-Eleven on Nickerson Street. That jacket belongs to Kirsty.

The couple’s truck was found on March 12 parked at 1320 Mercer Street. Detectives say it also got two parking tickets at 500 N. Pontius St.

Criminal history

The suspect has an extensive criminal history that stretches back to 1996. It includes convictions for Rape-Second Degree, Robbery-1st Degree and Assault-1st Degree.

Huber also has convictions in 2005 for Trafficking, Indecent Exposure and Possession of Stolen Property.

In 2007, he was busted for DUI and Negligent Driving 1st Degree.

He logged another burglary conviction in 2010 as well as one for a stolen vehicle in 2011.

His most recent conviction was in October of 2014 for Possession of Illegal drugs.

FUGITIVE WANTED IN SNOHOMISH COUNTY March 11, 2015 — |
One day after deputies say fugitive sex offender Chris Zellner stole a Dodge Caravan in Snohomish to escape authorities, the vehicle was found at Bollenbaugh Hills Road and Old Pipeline Road outside Monroe Wednesday.

The van belonged to Tricia Dale’s elderly mother. It was taken to Skyway Towing, where Dale got her first look at it.

“The b****** jacked everything!” Dale said when she discovered her bamboo drawing tablet and DJ controller that she uses for work gone.

The steering column was was also cracked open and the ignition ripped out.

“There is something sprayed all over this. It is gross in here,” said Dale, referring to an oily residue inside the van.

She thinks Zellner sprayed WD-40 on everything.

Dale is a mother to five kids and says she’s angry their sense of security has been stolen.

“I want to beat him with a 2×4 right now, is what I think about him.”

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies say Zellner stole Dale’s van to escape after a homeowner discovered him naked in his pool.

Shawna Andrew lives in the area outside Monroe where the van was abandoned.

“They might not have to look for him anymore if I found him (naked) like that,’ said Andrew, who hopes Zellner is caught soon before somebody gets hurt.

“He’s crafty and wreaking havoc all over Snohomish County,” said deputy Jim Miner.

Zellner has a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender but he is also a suspect in numerous burglaries. Deputies say he is armed with a silver pistol.

UPDATE March 19, 2015 —

Authorities say the man accused of stealing an SUV with two children inside was arrested Thursday in Portland.

According to Lacey police, tips helped identify the suspect as Curtis Harmon. He was arrested by the Portland Police Bureau and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for a warrant out of Washington.

Police also said officers recovered some stolen property.

WANTED BY LACEY POLICE March 18, 2015 —

LACEY, Wash. — Police are still on the hunt for man they said stole an SUV with two small children inside, who were later found safe.

It happened around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at Paramount Christian Church and Academy on College Street.

Police said the mother walked her son inside the daycare, but left her car running in the parking lot. When she came back, both her car, and her 3 and 5-year-old kids were missing.

“When I opened the door she said that her car was gone and her kids were in the car,” said Paramount principal Amy Goodwin. “We ran inside and called 911 right away.”

That sparked a frantic search along College Street.

Moments later, and less than a mile away at Small Wonders Child Development Center, employees spotted a man walking away after parking a car.

That’s when Maggy Partello found two kids sitting in the back seat.

“She’s like, it was a man. And O said who was the man? She was like I don’t know him,” said Partello.

Lacey Police, along with the Washington State Patrol and Thurston County Sheriff’s Deputies used canine officers to track the suspect to a home on 35th Court Southeast. Police broke down the door but came up empty handed.

“Dog even went up in the crawl space, nothing,” said homeowner Sharon Matson.

Administrators at Paramount spent the day looking through surveillance video searching for clues that could lead to a suspect. They’re thankful mom and her kids were reunited.

“That’s God’s work right there,” said Crystal Powers.

Other parents said the incident is a reminder for everyone to never leave kids inside a running car for any reason.

“My mom always tells me the kids are the most important thing,” said Fengmin Yhen. “Don’t leave the kids alone.”

It turns out the children’s father is a Thurston County Sheriff’s deputy.

Investigators later said the suspect boarded an Intercity Transit bus and rode it to the area of Balustrade Blvd SE and Ruddell Road SE.

Lacey police said the suspect was seen about 15 minutes later walking northbound on Balustrade Blvd toward Yelm Highway SE.

If you any information in this case you’re urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Leechae Johnson is in custody in the Henderson County Jail in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

FUGITIVE WANTED IN FIFE April 19, 2014 —
Surveillance video shows a robbery victim in his boxers escaping a motel room in Fife after he’s lured there by a woman in an online ad and held hostage by two men armed with a knife.

After we aired the video of him bolting for freedom, Washington’s Most Wanted viewer tips started pouring into Crime Stoppers identifying the woman.

Her name’s Leechae Johnson, but cops say she calls herself “Chae Chae Bear”, or several fake names like “Keylani”, “Kalea”, and “Kandi” when she’s posing as a prostitute to try and meet men through the website, Backpage.com.

That’s how she hooked up with her victim who got quite the shock once he walked into that motel room. “Our victim thinks he’s just going to meet this female for a date,” says Lauren Wallin with Crime Stoppers of Tacoma/Pierce County. “What ends up happening is he walks into the motel room and two men come out from the bathroom. They grab him, tie him up, remove his clothing, steal his car keys and wallet, and empty his bank account.”

Detectives say once Johnson and one of the men returned, the victim was able to escape. He started yelling for help and raced to the lobby where they called 911. The two bad guys quickly ran the other way. The woman detectives say is Johnson, gets out of the car and takes off too.

“This may not be her first crime and it certainly may not be her last,” says Wallin. “So, we want her in custody right away. It may lead us to identifying the two males or hopefully your viewers will help us out in getting tips to help get them identified as well.”

BAKER 4One of the two male suspects was captured June 27. However, both Chae Chae Bear and the 3rd suspect are still on the run.

FUGITIVES WANTED IN SEATTLE March 19, 2015 — Police need your help identifying two robbers caught on video during a home invasion last week in Meadowbrook.

Detectives released video Thursday taken by a security camera inside the home on the 11300 block of 35th Avenue NE in Seattle.

The victims told officers that two masked men barged into their home on March 12, held them at gunpoint, zip-tied their hands, and then searched the home for cash.

One of the victims fought back, and at that point one of the home invaders fired his gun, striking the victim in the groin.

The suspects eventually fled, giving the victims a chance to free themselves and call police.

Medics transported the injured victim to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

“The victim in this case obviously lived but the fact remains suspects are now on the loose and they’re armed with weapons. Who knows what their intent will be. Maybe breaking into your home,” said Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound who is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information.

Robbery detectives are now working with the victims as they continue the investigation.

One suspect is described as a male in his mid-to-late 30s, 5’8″ to 5’10” with a thick build.
